Viticulture in Virginia began in 1607 with the requirement that each settler at Jamestown grow 10 grape vines for wine, and reached its highest point to date last year, when Wine Enthusiast named Virginia one of the world’s 10 best wine travel destinations.
Most of Virginia’s wine grapes are grown in the state’s mountainous regions… but not all. The Lake Region has its own wineries, and provides a gateway to one of the state’s wine trails.
